Inform, encourage and facilitate the recruitment of Francophone immigrants

Halifax, March 28, 2017 - The Conseil de développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CDÉNÉ) hosted an information session on international recruitment in Halifax on March 27 in collaboration with Immigration francophone Nouvelle-Écosse, la Fédération des communautés francophones et acadiennes du Canada, and the financial support of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Seven employers from the Halifax region participated in this session with Caroline Guimond and Louise Van Winkle from the Embassy of Canada in Paris, Lydia Bernier from the Canadian Embassy in Dakar, Sean Morency from IRCC and Leanne Bartlett and Maddi MacDonald of the Nova Scotia Immigration Board. These immigration experts presented immigration channels that can be used to recruit workers, notably through the Francophone Mobility Program launched in June 2016 and the new pilot immigration program in Atlantic Canada, launched in March 2017.
This three-year pilot project will allow 2,000 immigrants and their families to settle in Atlantic Canada in fiscal year 2017-2018, including 800 in Nova Scotia. The federal government makes this program a priority with a permanent resident application process that will not exceed 6 months. Also great news, during this waiting period, a temporary work visa may be issued to immigrants to enable employers to meet their labor needs faster.
This pilot project is part of the Atlantic Growth Strategy Action Plan developed in July 2016 and will help to ensure the continued settlement of immigrants in the communities.
After this meeting with the employers, the CDÉNÉ will participate from April 2 to 8 at Destination Acadie in Morocco, this time to meet those who want to immigrate to Canada, to inform them about the job market in Nova Scotia and facilitate the link with employers.
