Third edition of the reception for Acadian and Francophone municipal councilors of Nova Scotia
Halifax, November 14, 2018 – This third reception for Acadian and Francophone municipal councillors organized by le Conseil du développement économique de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CDÉNÉ) took place during the annual conference of the Federation of Nova Scotia Municipalities in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs. This evening was an opportunity for participants to network in French and explore potential collaborative opportunities while sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Dignitaries present were Honourable Chuck Porter, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, and Minister of Immigration for Nova Scotia. Minister Lena Diab was accompanied by the Executive Director of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie, Mr. Mark Bannerman.

Julie Oliver, Executive Director of the CDÉNÉ informs that the CDÉNÉ is the only Francophone economic development organization in Nova Scotia with a provincial mandate and has been involved in many aspects of economic development since 1999. With offices in 5 regions of the province and 22 employees, a variety of services are delivered including business, employment, economic development and economic immigration to individuals and organizations of the Acadian and Francophone community. The CDÉNÉ is pleased with the work done in partnership with municipalities of the Acadian regions on major projects.
Mr. Ronnie Leblanc, Vice-President of the CDÉNÉ and Warden of the Municipality of Clare also contributed to this reception by introducing special guests. Minister Chuck Porter thanked the CDÉNÉ for this important initiative for Acadian councillors from Francophone municipalities, which he is pleased to take part in for the first time since taking office as Minister of Municipal Affairs. Thereby, Minister Lena Diab and Mark Bannerman took the opportunity to present to Julie Oliver Resolution 640, adopted on October 11 by the House of Assembly Nova Scotia. It congratulated and thanked the CDÉNÉ and her entire team for the work they have done to advance the development of the Acadian regions and to attract and establish Francophone immigrants, which in return contributes to strengthening the economy, the Acadian and Francophone communities and the French language in the province of Nova Scotia.

Yves Hennekens of YHC Environment was invited to explain his role as a facilitator for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the climate protection program, his mission being "to help think and build green", also adhering to the principles of sustainable development, a priority for the CDÉNÉ and the municipalities.

Finally, it is important to highlight the contribution and support of Michelle Saulnier, Coordinator of French Language Services for Municipal Affairs, as well as the participation of numerous Wardens, Deputy Wardens, Municipal Councillors and CAOs.
